The Inter-Korean Summit taken place on April 27 brought some peaceful atmosphere to the entire world including India and Pakistan. Today opinions among global citizens about whom to win a Nobel Peace Prize in 2019 are becoming a hot issue which everyone wants to deliver its own arguments over. I would thus like to give my opinions to the people who do not agree with the idea which President Trump deserves one.
According to the Norwegian Nobel Committee, the Nobel Peace Prize has honoured the laureates for their outstanding achievements relevant to "Peace"; therefore, who or what contributed largely to bring peace to the world deserves to win. It doesn't necessarily matter whether or not she/he/it has done something else or hasn't done other things for the world. If someone dedicated its effort to peace on earth, it deserves to be awarded.
What President Trump has shown the globe is his outstanding courage confronting the powerful who loves to see wars going on everywhere except the US soil. I believe that making them diverted must have been footing on a precarious ladder to all three of them: President Trump, President Moon and North Korean Leader Kim.
I assume that even President Trump himself would admit that his administration has made some terrible decisions on the bills that would help people in need. I thus hope he encourage his staff to consider a possible change of decision and to reassess those bills when his second term began if he wins. However, I do not agree with an idea that other aspects but world peace get to primarily influence on the qualification requirements of the nomination.
Many people point out that Trump's intention would be all about his re-election campaign. Maybe yes, maybe no. Probably and likely because Trump would be just the same with other politicians who wish to win the election. So what? Since the Korean war ceased in 1953, the United States has had 13 presidents including Trump. The other 12 presidents also had their own chances to become a Nobel Peace Prize Laureate by simply having done what President Trump is now implementing. However, all the others looked away and silenced because they weren't desperate as much as the two Koreas have been. President Trump listened to what South Korean President Moon mapped out a route to peace on the Korean Peninsula, empathized, and embraced with his levelheaded approach.
Moreover, even former President Obama did receive one. Not to sound offensive, I still have difficulties to find a good reason which I could agree on with. So I'd like to ask you, "What exactly did Obama do to world peace except that he stopped Bush by being elected and that he brought some troops (Iraq and Afghanistan) back home?" I truly expected more. For instance, I thought Obama would end the wars in the Middle East and bring all the troops back home very early in his first term. If you say "No way", then how about this? I instantly expected to see him at least "trying" to end those pointless wars and close the Guantanamo Bay detention camp.
While most former detainees freed, he also transferred facilities to other countries. Which means the idea of having detention camp still exists with no guarantee of not violating human rights in new sites. Obama had 8 years to get on ending all those nonsense wars and closing completely detention camps. Barely attempted, never done in part.
Obama administration even started a "New War" in Yemen in consistent drone bombing and cruise missile attack, authorized air strikes and special operation activity in Saudi Arabia, escalated US operation in Somalia, let alone drone war in Pakistan and troops in Afghanistan. Obama used to teach constitutional law for God's sake, and yet he kept sending troops to the battlefields here and there. What on earth is to be acclaimed for with a Peace Prize?
So now I'm asking myself why not a Peace Prize for President Trump? Well, he at least is about to completely end the war on the Korean Peninsula. That is a great achievement to world peace. An accomplishment which Trump is about to have was known for "An Impossible Mission" or so called "I-Can-But-Don't-Wanna-Do-It Project" for the other 12 presidents including President Obama who used to teach constitutional law.
What Obama did instead was having some great time with Japanese in Japan as well as in the US. Contemplating the path that Obama and Abe walked along in terms of almost all the issues involved with the two Koreas, I reached a conclusion that Obama and Abe agreed on the stance unfavorable to peace on the Korean Peninsula.
What made it worse was that the former US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton (The Obama administration)'s email revealed that she wrote, "We don't want a unified Korean peninsula because if there were one South Korea would be dominant for the obvious economic and political reasons." It was a worst blunder as anyone would not dare in international relations. However, Secretary of State Clinton's "confession" was in fact a "Secret" that everyone had known for decades.
Unidentified war fear going on the Korean Peninsula has helped a few countries beneficially positioning in their industrial deals, foreign policies, diplomatic relations, especially dollar diplomacy since 1953. Two Koreas have had to spend sizable money to keep the DMZ peaceful as well as looked as if some active tension's going around. That active tension has become more and more being questioned by the world if it's real and necessary.
The only reason of the established Korean Demilitarized Zone being how it has been was because the Korean war never ended but ceased by an agreement between the Commander-in-Chief, United Nations Command, on the one hand, and the Supreme Commander of the Korean People's Army and the Commander of the Chinese People's volunteers, on the other hand, concerning a military armistice in Korea.
The Korean Armistice Agreement was designed to insure a complete cessation of hostilities and of all acts of armed force in Korea until a final peaceful settlement is achieved. In the 1954 Geneva Conference in Switzerland, Chinese foreign minister suggested a peace treaty; however the US secretary of state , John Foster Dulles didn't accommodate this attempt to achieve such a treaty. A final peace settlement has never been achieved till today.
Of course I didn't forget about the other two. South Korean President Moon and North Korean Leader Kim are global heroes. The pressure the two have carried on their shoulders were something I couldn't even imagine what it's like. By being wise and assiduous, they prevailed in trusting each other. The two will be revered by global citizens guarding peace on earth.
I'm looking forward to seeing a historic moment when North Korean Leader Kim and President Trump meet and talk, and then President Moon joins later to announce it together on a historic site named "Panmunjom." Another great history on earth will be completed then. Best luck with you three and bless all!
