Over 3,000 reporters including foreign correspondents equipped with video cameras and voice recorders in the same place for AN event! I hear that Amanpour with CNN Live has just signed up. A real historic moment IS coming. So am I definitely staying tuned. How about you?
Here is the message from Foreign Minister Kang, Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea!
Greetings, twitter followers across the world!
This is Foreign Minister Kang Kyung-wha of the Republic of Korea,
I want to let you know that history is being made on the Korean Peninsula.
First of all, thank you so much for the great success of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics and Paralympics earlier this year. It would not have happened without the enthusiastic participation and support from many of you around the world. The Games were indeed the biggest in the history of the Winter Olympics. And it was also an opportunity to jump start talks between South and North Korea after a long period of non-engagement and rising tension.
And now, the top leaders of the two sides will meet for an inter-Korean Summit on April 27.
President Moon, Jae-in of the South will greet Chairman Kim, Jong Un of the North for a day-long meeting in the south side of the truce village of Panmunjom. It would be the first time in the 70 years' division of the Peninsula for the top leader of the North to set foot south of the Military Demarcation Line.
And it is only the third Summit between the two sides, the first in 2000 and the second in 2007.
Furthermore, a first-ever Summit meeting between the United States and North Korea is also in the making.
These are truly historic events, that could bring about a lasting peace on the Korean Peninsula, which has been the ardent dream of the Korean people. And that would mean a huge step forward for word peace.
So please, cheer us on, and stay tuned!
